Policeman claiming to be CID steals Dh1.06m

The Dubai Criminal Court awarded a Pakistani policeman three years in jail and his accomplices various terms for stealing Dh1.06m from a company after claiming to be CID staff.

According to the accusation sheet JAH, 24, policeman and MAO, 33, salesman with another fugitive stole Dh1,060,000 from Al Ras Area Trading company and four labour cards by breaking into the company and attacking its staff.

ASM, 27, Indian salesman, ZAT, 28, marketing manager and other fugitives are accused of criminal complicity and helping JAH and MAO.

The prosecution also accused MAR, 32, Indian visitor of possessing Dh2,000 with knowledge that it was stolen money.

Ali Saeed, 28, lieutenant, testified before the prosecution that on December 26, the force received a complaint from Samir Mousa and Riyadh Shanjot about a theft been committed at Naïf area. The complainants informed that two people came to the company and stole Dh1.060m.

“Investigating the case, JAH was arrested in his accommodation in Al Quoz area and ASM in AL Riqqa area. The rest of the suspects were arrested in Naif area. Police confiscated Dh20,000 in JAH’s house and each of MAO and MAR possessed Dh2,000. Confronting them about the money in their possession, they confessed they were from the theft.

JAH confessed that he entered the company with a fugitive called Omran… he presented his police ID card claiming a CID staff. He also admitted that he beat Samir Mousa with his hand on his cheeks and stole the money. MAO’s role was to observe the road outside the company and he was among the planners of the theft,” testified the Lt Ali.

ASM confessed that he was a planner of the operation whereas MAR denied having any role in the crime but was given Dh2,000 with his knowledge that it was from the operation.

Riyadh Shanjot, 30, Indian driver testified that on December 21 and while he was in his accommodation at Naif area the accused strongly knocked at the door.

“One of the accused kicked the door and forcibly entered the flat. He showed his police ID card and asked us to present our IDs. We all have given him our labour cards. He took them and asked us move to the other room which is used as the office of our company. The one who showed his ID saw the safe and asked Samir to open it. After Samir opened the safe he asked us to stay in the living room and not to use our mobile phones. They took the money and ran away,” Riyadh testified.

Samir Mousa, 31, Indian accountant repeated the same testimony adding: “When I asked the attackers to show their identity, one of them slapped me on my face and then pulled out his Police ID card.”

The prime accused in the case, the policeman JAH was absent the hearing yesterday whereas the rest accused, who all attended, denied the accusation.

The Dubai Prosecution asked the court to strictly punish the accused and to deport them from the country.

The court sentenced MAO to one year in jail for theft charge, ASM, and ZAT to six months in jail each for criminal complicity charge and MAR to three months in jail for possessing stolen money.

All shall be deported after serving their sentences.
