Ministry of Economy is planning to fix prices of 1,600 consumer products at 340 outlets nation-wide during the forthcoming month of Ramadan, according to the Minister of Economy Sultan Saeed Al-Mansouri.

The integrated plan includes a Ramadan basket of 15 commodities with prices ranging between Dh70-170, the minister said in remarks as he recently chaired the second meeting of the Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection.

Outlets and retailers will have the choice to customise their own Ramadan basket and specify its 15 commodities.

The Committee's meeting also discussed, among other things, reports on 4295 complaints lodged online and via the hotline by consumers up to the end of last May.

Protecting consumers is a national priority, Mansouri said nothing that the initiative by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to give 'Ramadan Ration' project a permanent status subsidising food items throughout the year will back the stability of prices year-round and not only for the holy month.
