Public holiday in UAE on June 17; school exams are not affected

Ministries and federal government bodies will be closed on June 17, 2012 to mark Al Isra Wal Miraj.

In order to mark the acension of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), June 17 (Sunday) is declared an official holiday for workers in the ministries and federal bodies, according to a circular issued on Monday.

Humaid Mohamed Obaid Al Qattami, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, said in the circular that June 17 is a public holiday for workers in the ministries and federal agencies.

He wished the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai on the occasion.

School exams not affected on June 17 holiday

School examinations will begin as scheduled on June 17 although that day has been declared as public holiday in the UAE on the occasion of Israa wa Almiraj, according to the Ministry of Education.

“The examinations will be held on time on June 17 without postponement,” the Ministry said in a statement announcing that day is a UAE public holiday.

“It will be a work day for all students and teachers supervising the examinations, which will be held according to the timetable without any change.”

The Ministry urged all teachers and students through the UAE to attend classes in the next few days and to abide by the examination schedule.
