Dubai Police Chief Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim has said that riding quad bikes on roads could endanger lives of the riders as well as those of other road users.

He said to prevent such accidents Dubai Police have been confiscating quad bikes used on roads.

Figures from the traffic department show that traffic patrols in Deira and Bur Dubai have confiscated 437 quad bikes during the first nine months of the year.

Responding to queries during a live TV programme, the police chief reminded their users that many of these vehicles are designed to be used in sandy areas or in farms and not on the main roads meant for regular traffic.

In a related message, Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zaffin, Director General of the Dubai Police Traffic Department urged parents not to risk their children’s lives by buying them such vehicles.

While anyone riding these bikes are in danger, he said children are particularly so as most of them do not adhere to safety measures and traffic rules.
