Rain Impact: Accidents, traffic jams across UAE

It’s certainly proving to be a damper of a Sunday morning commute for many UAE residents, as thunderstorms and rainy weather conditions have resulted in minor traffic accidents and major traffic snarls across major highways.

Reports have come in that traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road, Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Sharjah Ring Road and Dubai Bypass Road is extremely slow moving.

However, even internal roads are not spared, with traffic reports also emerging from smaller arteries such as Al Wasl Road.

Sajidah Al Shamayleh tweeted: “So much traffic at Al Safa Park; try to avoid taking this way guys.”

Dubai Police also tweeted of a minor accident, saying: “An accident has been reported on Al Rashideya Bridge from Al Khawaneej public road and there is traffic, take care.”

Another eyewitness reported a minor fender bender near the Discovery Gardens exit around 7.30am, between a Mazda car and a four-wheel drive.

Meanwhile, another reported a four-car pile-up heading to Abu Dhabi, near Al Jafiliya Metro Station, which has been cleared since.

Even commuters to Abu Dhabi were not spared the jams, with Abu Dhabi Police tweeting: “Traffic congestion and delays on Al Saada Bridge outbound from Abu Dhabi.”
