Rain in UAE: Congestion slows traffic

Rainfall commenced across most of UAE on Wednesday morning, prompting authorities to issue road warnings.

At 7am Ministry of Interior Abu Dhabi tweeted via its official Twitter handle: “Light to medium rain on different areas in city of Abu Dhabi. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously.”

However, two hours later, traffic was still reported in pockets in the capital, even as Dubai witnessed a spate of minor crashes.

At 8.30am, Dubai Police also confirmed a crash on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, adding to the rain slowdown for Sharjah motorists.

The authority tweeted: “An accident on SMBZ Road after SMBZ Square towards Dubai. Traffic congestion is reported, kindly use alternative routes.”

Further down, eyewitnesses also reported on a minor accident on E44 Al Aweer Road just after Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed intersection towards Dubai 15 minutes earlier.

A spate of minor fender benders on the same highway has also caused a build-up at DIP roundabout towards Abu Dhabi tweeted several commuters.

TrafficDxb also reported on an accident on E66 Dubai-AlAin Road near Nad Al Sheba towards Dubai, which was causing congestion and tailbacks around 8.30am.

They further tweeted: “Reports of scattered showers and drizzling on E11 near Al Samha towards Abu Dhabi. Please drive with extreme caution. Slow down.”
