Boy rebuffed by Arab mom with Emirati family

An Emirati family in Ras Al Khaimah decided to keep a 16-year-old Arab boy it has brought up after his mother refused to take custody of him.

The Personal Affairs Court in the northern emirate had asked the boy’s expatriate Arab mother to let her son live with her but she refused on the grounds his father had left the UAE and she could not afford brining him up.

The court then asked the UAE man whether he is willing to keep the boy with his family and his reply was positive.

The Emirati brought up the boy since he was just three months old after his parents could not look after him because of a court case.

“The UAE man went to court to let the boy’s real mother take him since it is legally under Islam not allowed for an adult male to live with another family,” the Arabic language daily Al Khaleej said.

“But the boy’s real mother refused to take him, prompting the court to ask the national whether he is ready to keep the boy. The man said he would keep him.”
