Ras Al Khaimah has decided to extend a five-month 50  per cent reduction on traffic fines on December 2, which marks the UAE’s 44th national day anniversary.

Strong demand by drivers benefiting from the cut prompted the northern emirate to extend the reduction when it expires on that date, said Brigadier Ghanim Ahmed Ghanim, director of the central police operations in RAK.

Quoted by the Dubai-based Al Bayan newspaper, he said 7,339 drivers have so far benefited from the extension since it was enforced on July 1.

“The extension period ends on Dec 2 but it will be extended to allow for all drivers to benefit from this facility…our goal is to bring discipline to the roads,” he said.
