Prison authorities in Ras Al Khaimah have decided to allow inmates to meet their wives privately in separate rooms built by the emirate for this purpose.

Married prisoners in the Northern Emirate will be able to have ‘Khilwa Sharia’ (legal meeting) with their wives from the beginning of 2015 after the construction of special rooms next to the prison building.

“From the start of next year, inmates will be able to practice their right for khilwa sharia with their wives,” said Colonel Ahmed Al Saloumi, director of RAK punitive and rehabilitation department.

“The project has reached its final phase….special rooms have been built and they will be furnished for this purpose…married inmates will be permitted to see their wives for one hour once every month,” he told ‘Emarat Al Youm’ daily.

He said another project involves the introduction of health services to treat inmates at prison without sending them to hospital.
