The Islamic Crescent Observation Project (ICOP) expects that some Islamic countries would start the Holy Month of Ramadan on Wednesday, August 11.

The month of Sha'ban began in most Muslim nations on Tuesday, July 13, therefore these nations would monitor the Ramadan Crescent on Tuesday, August 10.

Mohammad Showkat Awda, chairman of the project, said the moon sighting that day would not be possible, either visually or by using a telescope from all parts of Asia and Europe and most parts of Africa, pointing out that the possibility of sighting the new moon with the telescope will be in the South African and the Central South American countries.

He noted that the only place from which the moon would be sighted with the naked eye on Tuesday is the south-west of the South American continent.

Awda said since the sighting of the moon would be possible on Tuesday from some parts of the world, it is expected that some states would commence the month of Ramadan on Wednesday, August 11, while the states that require to sight of the moon within their territories, such as Oman, are expected to begin the month of Ramadan on Thursday, August 12.

He added that there are countries, which began the month of Sha'ban on Wednesday, July 14, such as Morocco and Pakistan, and therefore they would sight the crescent of Ramadan on Wednesday, August 11. They are expected to start Ramadan on Thursday, August 12.
