An Abu Dhabi court sentenced a man from another Gulf country to four months in prison and ordered his deportation from the UAE after he was convicted of driving recklessly and endangering lives and public property.

The man was also convicted of driving a car without a driving licence and refusing to heed police orders to stop the vehicle after he was seen driving in the opposite direction on a key road in the capital at night.

His Arab friend, who owns the car, was also convicted by the court for allowing the Gulf man to drive his vehicle without licence. Newspapers did not mention the sentence against the vehicle owner.

Man mixes Tramadol with coffee

An Arab man was sentenced to four years in jail in Abu Dhabi after he was caught at the airport with a large coffee bag mixed with Tramadol, a drug-like pain killer pill.

Customs men at the airport suspected the man as he walked past the passport control section after arrival in the capital and decided to search his baggage.

Police said customs found a large amount of Tramadol mixed with coffee in the man’s baggage. He was detained for interrogation and was later sentenced by an Abu Dhabi criminal court to four years in prison and ordered deported from the UAE.
