Register now to pay Abu Dhabi traffic fines in installments

Motorists with vehicles registered in Abu Dhabi can pay traffic fines in installments.

The installment system comes as part of an agreement between the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrol Directorate and the Department of Transport, the Abu Dhabi Police announced.

Motorists must apply within the next three months to avail of the decision.

Both Emirati and non-Emirati motorists can apply.

The new mechanism is an important initiative designed to give drivers a chance to keep themselves safe and not violate laws and expose themselves to legal penalties,” said Brigadier General Hussain Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police.

The instalments can be used to pay off traffic fines for vehicles registered in Abu Dhabi emirate, including the capital, Al Ain and the Western Region (Al Gharbia).

The fines can have been incurred across the UAE.

However, the scheme only applies to traffic fines issued to vehicles owned by individuals and not available for vehicles owned by companies or organisations.

Motorists with only one traffic violation cannot make use of the installment system either.

Only those with two or more traffic violations can avail of it.

When applying, the motorist must pay off 50 per cent of the total amount due for traffic violation fines.
The rest can be paid off in installments over the next 12 months.

Motorists who wish to sell their cars must first settle all traffic fines.

If a resident owns two cars and wants to sell only one, s/he can shift all traffic fines to the car he intends to keep.
