Vehicle owners from across the UAE can now renew their registration and driving licence at selected Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) centres in Dubai.

The facility is available at the RTA’s main customer service centre in Umm Ramool, Deira Licensing Centre and Al Barsha Licensing Centre. The facility will be expanded to more centres in Dubai soon.

This is part of the RTA’s three phased strategy to simplify and uniform the procedures of licensing vehicles and drivers and unify the databases to provide statistics and information to be used by security and government agencies.

The RTA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and the Dubai Police General HQ, has already finalised the initial phase of the traffic systems merging scheme that envisages linking the Dubai traffic system with the federal traffic and licensing system through an electronic platform. This will enable the exchange of offences and inquiries about the licensing of vehicles and drivers.

Some of RTA main centres will offer key services such as the renewal of vehicle licensing, renewal of driving licences and issuing of traffic certificates.

The CEO of the RTA’s Licensing Agency, Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, said: “This achievement marks phase two of the traffic systems merging scheme throughout the UAE, which comprises three strategic phases. The number of centres and services will be doubled accordingly as per the timeline set in the scheme.”

Phase one included the provision of inquiry links and unifying the driving licence cards and vehicle ownership (registration) cards.

Phase three will cover data sharing in the two systems and standardising the databases of the Ministry of Interior, which in turn will create a large pool of a common federal database encompassing information about traffic files related to the licensing of vehicles and drivers and enable the offering of Dubai emirate services across all other emirates.

Colonel Anwar Al Mulla, Director of Information Technology, General Headquarters of Abu Dhabi Police, said: “The scheme also seeks to minimise potential errors upon the entry of key data such as registration, licensing, renewal of registration and renewal of driving license besides improving the quality of services.”
