Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman and Executive Director of Roads and Transport Agency (RTA), has launched renewal of vehicle registration, driving licence and payment of traffic fines service through telephone calls made to RTA Licensing Centre.

The service, which is the first of its kind across the Middle East, will be available to customers as early as the beginning of next November.

Launching the service, Al Tayer said: “Over the past months, RTA has made several improvements in the quality of services delivered to clients of the Licensing Agency. It is now possible for the public to process the renewal of vehicle registration/driving licence and effect payment of fines through four channels: RTA website [www.rta.ae], RTA customer service centres, RTA-approved insurance companies, and now through phone calls to RTA call centre. The new service will be handy, easily accessible and won’t require huge human resources to run.

“Since RTA is in constant pursuit of customer satisfaction, this service will be on offer 24/7 and RTA has already put in place the required counters for delivering the service to customers.”

Al Tayer commended the huge efforts made by the work team of the Licensing Agency and customer service centres department in redefining those services and transactions to be delivered by phone, rendering the RTA the first entity across the Middle East that delivers such a service.

Accompanied by a host of CEOs, Al Tayer attended a briefing by Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of Licensing Agency, about the mechanism of processing this phone transaction service, which starts with a customer placing a call to RTA call centre (8009090) and selecting the required service where he or she will be transferred to the concerned service employee who in turn will enter the customer’s details in the computer that will display his or her data on the screen. The employee processes the transaction and recovers the service fees by means of a credit card.

It takes about 10 minutes to process the transaction and a copy of the new vehicle registration card or driving licence will be e-mailed to the customer pending the delivery of the original registration or driving licence card by express mail.

RTA has co-ordinated with the Dubai Police General HQ to accept the temporary copy pending receipt of the original registration or driving licence card.

Bahrozyan said: “Phone-based processing of renewal of a vehicle registration transaction requires preconditions to be met such as the vehicle’s insurance and the annual technical test of the vehicle, if required. Licensing Agency has already made a dry run of the service within the RTA on June 10 in order to assess the effectiveness of the system and overcome any hiccups. The call centre has been revamped to handle larger number of callers and the service will be up and running early November.”

During Gitex Technology Week, RTA exhibited a wide range of new and sophisticated e-services highlighted by the advanced version of the dynamic navigation system Dalili, theoretical e-test (knowledge test) conducted on driving licence applicants, iPhone compatible applications enabling users full access to information related to the Metro stations on the Red Line, journeys and the Metro offences code.

Service portfolio showcased at Gitex also included various types of Nol cards, payment of parking fees through the mobile phone (mParking), inquiry and issuing reports about the usage of various Nol cards (gold, silver or red ticket) through Nol portal, and the journey planner (Wojahti), in addition to Sharekni and Awselni programmes.
