All parking in illegal slots will be shut down from August 25 by Sharjah Municipality, according to a report in Arabic daily Al Bayan.

Atef Al Zarouni, Director of the Public Parking at Sharjah Municipality, said that closure of such illegal parking would be undertaken in cooperation with relevant government departments and institutions.

He pointed out that Sharjah Municipality aims to regulate parking spaces in Sharjah, adding that the municipality has inventoried all legally licensed slots and identified the illegal ones.

He stressed that it has been distributing leaflets on all vehicles parked in unauthorised parking and has warned them against cooperation with operators of those illegal parking areas.

He added that the illegal parking squares would be closed because their operators do not adhere to the laws and regulations of the Sharjah city.

He noted that residents can identify a legal slot with boards showing Sharjah Municipality logo and all the investor data and tariff.

He emphasised that the municipality calls upon the public not to cooperate with offenders and not to park their vehicles on those illegal parking squares to avoid fines.
