Restricted access to swimming pools in Discovery Gardens?

Though swimming pools in Discovery Gardens are now open, access to the pools may be restricted soon.

Primarily, Nakheel, the master developer, is looking at stopping access to the pools for non-residents of the community.

A Nakheel spokesperson told Emirates 24/7: ““Work is currently underway to implement a mechanized access system to the pools so that only authorised users can have access.”

Currently, six swimming pools in the master community have been opened.

“We aim to open all 13 soon,” the spokesperson said.

In December last year, Nakheel had filled the pools, which this website had reported, but they were not opened to residents. Open from 8 am to 8 pm, the pools were opened in March.

Akshay Narang, a resident, says: “Good that the swimming pools have opened, but we are not certain if the people using the pools are residents or non-residents. I think there should be a system to provide access to residents only.”

Suzy J, a resident, however, fears that tenants whose landlords haven’t paid service charges could face a lock out.

“We know they [Nakheel] had barred tenants/owners to use swimming pools and gyms in Palm Shoreline to get the service charge defaulters to pay up… I hope they don’t enforce the same rule here.”

As per Nakheel website, there will be 13 community swimming pools – 12 of which will include children’s pools.

Discovery Gardens consists of six themed communities inspired by garden living, and includes Zen, Mediterranean, Contemporary, Mogul, Mesoamerican and Cactus courtyard gardens. The development spans over 26 million square foot plot and has 291 buildings.

The developer has recently announced plans to develop a retail centre in the master community, work for which will commence early next year.
