Wednesday and Thursday are two days of the week that witness the most number of traffic violations in Abu Dhabi, according to the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police. Sixteen per cent of offences are committed by motorists on these two days of the week.

Thursday records the most number of car accidents at 17 per cent of total accidents, reported ‘Al Khaleej’ newspaper.

And evening hours between 4pm and 8pm are the most ‘accident-prone’, the report added.

Meanwhile, the first four months of this year saw a decline in deaths from traffic accidents. There was a fall of 14 per cent in the number of traffic fatalities – from 87 last year to 75 this year during the same period.

Similarly, in the first four months of this year the number of cases with serious injuries declined by 35 per cent - from 88 to 57; while the number of traffic accidents reduced 9  per cent - from 683 to 624.

According to the report, the main reasons for accidents are sudden deviation followed by speeding. Also jumping red signals and lack of attention result in considerable number of accidents.
