More than 400 reports in a little more than a year were received regarding damaged or distorted elements that affect the public, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has said.
In the period from March 2013 until May 2014, a total of 438 reports were received through the updated version of the Madinati application, which was launched in March last year.
Through the smart app, the public can improve discipline while using roads and report any fault, damage or malfunctioning to help improve safety of road users and improve the look of the city through sending images of the concerned site over the smartphones.
A failing traffic light, damaged signboards, a damaged pavement, a blocked parking place, or a hole in a fence are some examples of issues that can be reported on.
“Non-functioning traffic lights and damaged signboards are the most common reports we receive,” said Ahmed Mahboob, Director of Customer Service at the RTA. “These are also the issues we respond to with priority.
“We have hit a number of objectives highlighted by saving the time and effort of inspectors who carry out periodic site inspection visits to spot any damage or risks on the right-of-way and accordingly intimate the competent body to take appropriate action.
“The app has a feature enabling it to automatically detect the geographical sitemap of the intended location, if not provided by the sender. This translates into a speedy movement towards rectifying the fault or sorting out the problem; which is a prime objective underlying the introduction of this app,” he added.
For those not familiar with the app, RTA states that, after downloading the app, one should select Arabic or English language from the sub-menu, click on Madinati for emergency reports, click on New Report, and write the report in the description box.
The location can be specified by pressing Select Site, after which an image can be uploaded to support the report. Then the user presses ‘Send’, and the report is filed.
The RTA annually honours community members whose suggestions or complaints make a difference to road safety.
