Rise in family disputes in Dubai

Dubai’s Public Prosecution handled 119 family disputes in the first quarter of this year.

Advisor Mohammad Rustam Bouabdallah said the number of family disputes investigated by the public prosecutor during the same period of 2011 and 2010 were 113 and 107 respectively, indicating a slight year-on-year increase.

He said public prosecutors are always conducing awareness programmes through the media and the Internet to tell people of the need for prudence and not to exaggerate minor family problems.

He said 46.5 per cent of the family problems were resolved in the first quarter of this year, which is excellent considering the usual intransigence of the two parties and the difficulties of persuading them to make peace.

New awareness programmes are likely to be introduced in the second half of this year, besides expanding the scope of counseling by the Department of Family Issues.
