RTA to revise speed limits in Dubai

Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) plans to revise speed limits on several roads in the emirate.

According to Gulf News, the decision follows recommendations made by the Speed Management Strategy Project launched in June 2009 to look into speed limits.

The newspaper quoted Maitha Obaid Bin Adai, Chief Executive Officer of the RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency as saying "Implementation and compliance with the specified speed limits will contribute to a better traffic flow and minimise road accidents and consequently loss of life and property."

The RTA would soon finalise a new Speed Manual detailing the speed limits.

Maitha said there was a rise in fatalities in accidents linked to speeding.
