Roads and Transport Authority will start writting-off vehicles whose registration had lapsed more than two years ago.

About 50,743 vehicles in Dubai will be deleted from RTA's register as owners have failed to renew the vehicles for more than two years, Ahmed Bahrouzyan, Executive Director, Licensing Agency, RTA, was quoted as saying by 'Al Khaleej' newspaper.

"About 250 clients recently renewed their vehicles that were not registered for more than two years," he added.

In response to public demand, RTA has postponed its decision to write-off unregistered vehicles until January 2011.

The number of vehicles renewed in Abu Dhabi in October increased to 6,172 compared to September. Lt Col Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Head of Vehicle Licensing, Department of Licensing and Drivers of Abu Dhabi Police, said the department registered 734,880 vehicles since the start of work until end-October.

Meanwhile, in total 891,251 licences have been issued in Abu Dhabi.
