Scaffolding inspections stepped up in Abu Dhabi

The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has called on all construction and property management companies as well as buildings owners to be extra cautious and address all necessary safety and security requirements for workers, especially those engaged in the maintenance and cleaning facades of high-rises.

The municipality has stepped up its surveillance and inspection campaigns aimed at calibrating and inspecting equipment, scaffolding, cranes and platforms used in cleaning building facades. The move comes in the aftermath of some recent tragic incidents, claiming the lives of several clean-up workers due to the lack of full compliance with the regulations and standards set by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City as regards security and safety measures that ought to be observed while performing such risky works and occupations.

Salah Awad Al Sarraj, Acting Executive Director of Town Planning Sector, Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, said: "Developing rules, regulations and programs to ensure the highest levels of safety and security at construction sites during the execution of various works and occupations conforms to the strategy of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City.

"It also epitomizes its mission and objectives aimed at nurturing safe and healthy work environment and safeguarding the lives and properties to the highest international standards in this score."

Abdul Aziz Zu'rub, Director of Environment, Health and Safety the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City called upon all construction and property management companies specialised in building cleaning operations to deal seriously and strictly with major risks resulting from lenient application of Environment, Health and Safety standards, particularly when it comes to hazardous works, including the cleaning of tower facades.
