School jobs in Abu Dhabi: Adec hiring

The process to fill out teaching and support positions in public schools across Abu Dhabi for the 2015-16 academic year is on full-swing, with Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) interviewing 1,240 candidates so far.

Of the 1,240 applicants, 655 were Emiratis and 585 were from Arab nationalities.

The teaching positions are open for Kindergarten, Islamic Studies, Arabic, Science, Math, English, General Science, Social Studies, History, Civics, Geography, Physiology, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Social Workers, Laboratory Technicians, LRC Specialists, psychologists, Special Education, Physical Education, Art, Music, and ICT.

In addition, support positions are also required. These are SEN Classroom Assistants, Registrars, Admin Assistants (Coordinators), Facilities Officers, and Career Guidance Counsellors

Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Adec’s Executive Director of School Operations, said the education regulatory board is keen to recruit qualified educators, and that somme new positions have been introduced within the school structure this year.

“Adec seeks to provide teachers with an attractive learning environment and professional development programs that allow them to develop their professional skills and better serve students and the community,” he said.
                         
For teaching positions, candidates must have a Bachelors degree with a major in the required teaching subject. Candidates must have IELTS Academic with 6.5 score for EMT Majal 2 (Science and Math) and General Science and Math; with 5.5 score for ICT; and 4.5 for LRC specialists. In addition, LRC specialists must have a major in Majal 1, Arabic, English, GIS, or ICT. Preference will be given to candidates with IELTS, higher qualifications, ICDL and based on availability of vacancies.

As for support positions, a SEN Classroom Assistant must have a diploma-level qualification in education or special education; or secondary school certificate plus a two-year training program in SEN education or two-year experience in SEN education after graduation from high school.

A registrar must hold diploma-level qualification in business or ICT.

A school business coordinator must hold bachelors degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or Human Resources. A Facilities Coordinator must have a Diploma level qualification in facilities services or health and safety or equivalent.

An Academic and Career Guidance Counselor must have a Bachelor degree in Career Education/ Counseling, Social Work or equivalent.

All candidates must also be fluent in English, and those holding English certificates are preferred. Candidates must have ICT skills, and those holding ICT certificates are preferred.
