Employees of a scrap trading company in Sharjah’s Sajja Industrial area allege their yard was looted by masked robbers last week.

Speaking to Emirates24|7, traders in the area say it is the second such incident in two months.

On Wednesday early morning, a gang of about 30 men arrived in pick-up vans, threatened the five employees on duty at that time with knives and other weapons and made away with copper wires, allege staff at the yard.

Meanwhile, another source with the company, which is owned by an Indian, allege that the five staff on duty were tied up and beaten by the robbers, as the gang shifted the stock into their pick-up van. The materials were kept ready for delivery, he added.

The company has filed a complaint and Sharjah Police is investigating.

There are police patrols at night at the industrial areas in the emirate.

The manager of the company, told this website, that it was a worrying situation because the yards are in an isolated area in Sajja industrial area, which reportedly had no street lights.

Two months ago, a group of about 17 men attacked the security guard of another scrap trading company in the area and tied-up the workers before disappearing with the company’s stock, allege a source from the firm.

A trader in the area said he sold his scrap trading firm because he was worried about such robberies.

Emirates 24|7 is awaiting a comment from the Sharjah Police on the incidents.
