Seat belt offences increase 89.3% in Dubai

Seat bealt offences in Dubai also witnessed an increase last year.

Car accidents killed six children in Dubai in 2010. While excessive speed led to one accident, reckless driving wherein the driver took a sudden deviation claimed one life. Yet another death resulted because the victim was stranded in the middle of the road, while in another case the driver reversed the vehicle without looking behind.

However, the General Department of Dubai Traffic Police issud fewer notices for irregularities last year (2,000,350) compared to that of the previous year, which stood at 2,000,417 violations.

Meanwhile, 78,513 people were fined for not wearing seat belts compared to 41,513 in 2009, posting an increase of 89.3 per cent.

About 695 bicycles were confiscated in 2010, compared to 488 in 2009 - an increase of 42.4 per cent. And 1,770 vehicles were seized for being noisy as against 1,653 in 2009.

About 2,185 cars were fined for having unclear number plates compared to 1,991 in 2009; 1,034 vehicles were booked for changing colours without licences as against 1,272 in 2009; and 999 vehicles were fined for having posters and phrases written over the body in 2010 compared to 1,177 vehicles in 2009.
