Senior dumped at hospital by brother for years

Published

A 74-year-old woman was brought by her brother to hospital in Dubai suffering from vomiting and diarrhea in 2001. Although she fully recovered a few days later, the woman is still lying there after her brother refused to take her back.

When he dumped her at Rashid Hospital, the brother did not provide any personal information about his sister, leaving the medical staff and management guessing as to where the woman came from. And when they contacted him to give him the good news about her recovery, he simply shut off his phone,

“We have tried many, many times to reach her brother but he would not answer our calls….in the end, he told us that he will not come and take her back,” said Badriya Hassan, a social expert at Rashid Hospital.

“During her 10-year stay at the hospital, we have not received any information about her nationality and personal life….her brother simply dumped her at the hospital in August 2001 and then left without giving any personal information about her,” she was quoted as saying by Emirat Alyoum newspaper.

Badriya said the woman is now suffering from senility and that she can not speak properly. “We tried to talk to her to get some information but we can not understand what she says…she is getting old and can not do anything now without help by others…we now treat her like a child.”

Badriya said the hospital had contacted some nursing homes in the emirate to take her in on the grounds she needs more social than medical care.

“But all of them said they do not take bed-ridden patients or those who do not have any identity papers…this means she is going to stay here.”
