Six international bands will be performing at Sharjah’s tourist destinations for the third Sharjah World Music Festival (SWMF) 2016, taking place from January 7-12.

The festival, organised by Furat Qaddouri Music Centre and sponsored by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), brings together performers from 13 countries.

The six-day outdoor performances will take place at the Heart of Sharjah, Al Qasba and Al Majaz Waterfront and features bands from Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Russia, Syria and Africa in a cultural fusion of music, performing in free outdoor shows.

The manager of the Sharjah World Music Festival, Furat Qaddouri, said, “We are pleased to bring six internationally acclaimed bands to Sharjah for the first time. They will entertain visitors with a unique fusion of music from all corners of the world. We promise visitors who join us that this festival will be a feast for the senses.”

The festival will feature daily shows performed by Bulgarian pianist, Kalina Yordanova Simeonova, Russian saxophone player, Vera Barnett Schuster, Argentinian cellist, Clara Asuaje and bands from Africa, Brazil and Syria. The musicians will entertain visitors at four different locations in the Heart of Sharjah, Al Qasba and Al Majaz Waterfront from 6pm -10pm.

The first edition of the Sharjah World Music Festival took place in Al Qasba in 2014. As a result of the success and increasing public interest, it was decided to expand the second edition of the festival to include venues such as the Masrah Al Qasba- Theatre, Al Majaz Waterfront, the Heart of Sharjah and The Flag Island.
