Sharjah Police arrest 1,617 illegal residents

Sharjah Police have arrested 1,617 illegal workers and residents in the emirate as part of the ongoing campaign against violators of UAE immigration laws.

Those caught were accused of offences like illegal entry into the country, escaping from sponsor, engaging in illegal acts, returning to UAE after deportation etc.

Brigadier Abdullah Mubarak, deputy commanding general of Sharjah Police, said a large number of the offenders were caught from abandoned buildings, buildings and workshops under construction and unused labour camps.

Brigadier Mubarak called on members of the public to cooperate with the police’s campaign by not dealing with such law breakers and also by reporting on violators of the law and their illegal acts by calling 800 151 or by email at najeed@shjpolice.gov.ae.

@ vincent, if they dont have residence means no jobs, who can predict what they'll do to earn their living, they'll sink into crime

@ farid, agree, many of these men come on visit visas then stay looking for work illegally. sure they are poor and support poorer families, but it is still illegal and creates danger to the society as when they dont find work, they will do anything to survive.

Mr. vincent, you are mistaken by your comments. There is a law in place for everyone living in U.A.E. They can always approach the authorities to have their case looked into. They have being caught because they do not have proper papers in place.

Don't portray all of them as criminals. Many are innocent and have not been paid salaries or were tortured by sponsors leaving them with no option but to abscond. I feel hurt when I see this picture which shows them as criminals.
