Seven Bangladeshi men in Sharjah kidnapped a compatriot and demanded a Dh10,000 ransom before police stormed the apartment, freed the captive and arrested the captors, a newspaper said on Monday.

The seven snatched the man, identified as GAN, and locked him up for three days after robbing him from nearly Dh10,000 a gold necklace,  the Dubai-based Arabic language daily Emirat Alyoum said.

One captor used GAN’s mobile phone to call his friend and tell him he must pay Dh10,000 ransom to have the captive released.

The friend reported the incident to the police, who later managed to locate the whereabouts of the kidnappers.

“Police then stormed the flat and freed the captive…they also arrested the seven captors who confessed to kidnapping the man after learning that he has much money….the captive told police they beat him up and forced him into the apartment at knife point,” the paper said.
