Sharjah residents call for more parking space

Sharjah residents urge authorities to increase parking space, both free and paid lots, across the emirate.

They complain of receiving fines for double and illegal parking of vehicles when there is a lack of space available especially in residential areas and crowded places such as restaurants, hospitals, banks, schools, supermarkets, etc, reported 'Emarat Al Youm'.

Most people also complained of spending long hours looking for space to park their vehicles. It does not make sense if we are on an errand that takes only a few minutes and end up driving around for hours looking for a space to park the car.

Samir Abdel Karim, a resident of Al Khan area, said: A few days ago he was forced to double park his car in front of a pharmacy for a few minutes because he could not find a free lot and his wife stepped out to buy medicine for their son. A police patrol passed by and issued him a Dh200 fine.

Khalid Hassan, a resident of Abu Shaghara, complained there is no enough parking near his house.

Magdy Mahmoud, another victim of parking fine, said he received one while waiting to buy a sandwich.

Meanwhile, Bin Darwish, Head of Patrols and Anjad of Sharjah police, said: "The 'no parking' areas are very clear and there are billboards and signboards and signals demonstrate that."

Motorists will receive Dh600 fine and two black points for wrong parking and blocking traffic without justification.
