Just a day after utilities operator Sewa apologised for leaving residents without power in Sharjah, electricity was cut again to several industrial and residential areas.

According to a report in UAE daily newspaper The National, industrial areas 2, 6 and 12 were left without power from 11am to 2pm, and residential areas including Abu Shagara were without electricity for an hour.

The authorities had apologised on Saturday for three days of power cuts, blaming them on a “glitch” in a natural gas pipeline feeding the main power station. The cuts created havoc, with hospitals treating patients for heat stroke, the death of a construction worker from heat exhaustion and the death of two young Emiratis in a car crash after traffic signals failed. Businesses have also threatened to leave the emirate over losses following the unstable power supply.
