Sharjah Municipality said a large number of residents are turning up to attest their leasing contracts prior to the hike in attestation fee from next month.

It attested more than 34,000 rental contracts during this month alone, reported Al Khaleej newspaper.

Omar Al Sharji, Assistant Director-General for Customer Service at Sharjah Municipality, said those were residential and commercial leasing contracts.

He pointed out that the municipal centers are receiving more than 4,000 applicants a day after the announcement of hike in attestation fee for the leasing contracts, which will come into effect from August 1, 2016.

Due to increased number of customers, the municipality extended work hours for attestation at municipal center in Industrial Area 5 until 5pm.

Omar Al Sharji emphasised that strict instructions have been given to the staff to receive applications for attestation until the end of the day till 5pm.

He added that the Municipality is willing to receive those applicants also whose rental contracts would expire in September and October and want to renew and attest their contracts prior to hike in the attestation fees.

There are 13 centers for attesting the lease contracts across the emirate of Sharjah. Official work hours at most of the centers are from 7am to 6pm.

He revealed that the municipal counters see crowd during the morning only but it eases after 1pm.

He expected the attestation counters would see crowd till Sunday, which is the last day before the hike in attestation fees begins.
