The emirate of Sharjah has allocated Dh5 million to settle citizens’ personal loans of less than Dh1 million, according to Mohammed bin Hendi, head of Sharjah Executive Council.

Bin Hendi praised the directives of Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah and Member of the Supreme Council, who ordered appointment 500 Emirati men and women in various departments of the emirate’s government.

This came in a meeting held to discuss  amendments to Sharjah’s Human Resources Code.

Tariq bin Khadim, head of Sharjah government’s Human Resources Department, said the amendments aim to bring the laws of the emirate as close as possible to UAE federal laws.

He also revealed that the department had some difficulties in implementing the order of the Sharjah ruler which increased salaries of the emirate’s government employees last January. The problem was whether to pay 50 or 75 per cent of the basic or gross salary.

Bin Khadim praised the Sharjah ruler for approving the same percentage increase in salaries of the emirate’s government employees as federal government staff.

Bin Khadim said Sharjah government employees’ gross salary was raised 30 per cent in May 2007. Their basic salaries were hiked 70 per cent in January 2008 in line with those of federal government employees, he said.
