Sharjah woman has 9 kids, all illegitimate

An old Arab woman residing in Sharjah has finally resorted to authorities for help, saying she has nine children without jobs and visas—and all of them are illegitimate.

The unidentified woman said she no longer can support her kids as they are all—aged between 7 and 40 years—have no jobs, no visas and no education.

Two of her sons were found to have been recently involved in a “vice case” while the mother herself has a rich record in police stations and courts.

“The woman’s children appear to have been subjected to family negligence through their life,” said Ahmed Al Tartoor, director of the child rights protection division at the Department of Social Affairs in Sharjah.

“They do not have any official documents for their residence in the UAE while they all have dropped out of school and some of them have a criminal record. They are citizens of an Arab country which provides nationality to children of its female citizens.”

Quoted by Emarat Al Youm daily, Tartoor said the woman told them she had a relationship with many men and that she had married some of them but she did not have any documents proving the marriage.

“She herself has been charged in cases involving drunkenness and getting pregnant from illicit relationships,” he said.

“The woman has come to us for help, saying she can no longer support her children given her old age and the fact that her children are not educated and some of them have a criminal record.

“She also needs help in issuing IDs and other official documents on the grounds she cannot afford this.”
