The kind gesture of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, touches a Swedish couple in distress.

Dagmar Fogelstrom and her husband Yngve Nilsson arrived on a sight-seeing trip to the UAE two weeks back.

However, as they were enjoying in Dibba, the 72-year-old man took ill as his pre-existing lung condition caught up with him. When he suffered from severe breathing trouble, they checked into Dibba Hospital, reported Emarat Al Youm.

But when the doctor said he was critical, Dagmar Fogelstrom decided to transfer him back to their country and drove to Dubai airport.

However, after consultations with airport officials she was advised to return to hospital as he was not fit to travel.

Thus, the elderly couple checked into Rashid Hospital. She immediately contacted the Swedish Embassy for help. “But I received a voice message, as they were closed for Christmas,” Dagmar said. To make matters worse, she lost her mobile phone and could not communicate with her folks back home even.

“I work as a secretary and my husband a taxi driver. I could not have possibly incurred the medical expense here, but for the kindness of His Highness,” she said and added that no sooner than Sheikh Mohammed heard of their plight than representatives of His Highness’s office visited her and provided them with necessary care.

All medical expense and their hotel stay was taken care of by Sheikh Mohammed.

However, Yngve Nilsson passed away on Tuesday night. She was immediately informed that all arrangements have been made to transfer his body back home.

“His Highness saved me,”  said Dagmar, “during the most difficult time in my life”.
