accident
Traffic has come to a halt on Sheikh Zayed Road on Sunday morning as per reports from frustrated commuters, as several cars have been involved in an accident near Al Safa area.
Paramedics and police authorities have arrived on the scene, with the latter confirming the accident occurring around 8.44am, tweeting: “A collision between several cars on Sheikh Zayed Road, near the Al Safa bridge, direction to Abu Dhabi, which led to the obstruction of traffic in both directions.”
The accident occurred in front of the Toyota showroom, near Oasis Centre with several police officers attempting to guide commuters and avoid bottlenecks.
Three ambulances have already been spotted on the scene, with SD, tweeting details of that the cars have crashed into the barrier splitting both sides of the highway, causing congestion on either side.
She said: “It’s [traffic] in both directions; the accident has gone through central reservation and affected both sides.”
An eyewitness spoke to Emirates 24|7, saying: “We can't be sure of how many cars are involved in the accident, but the cars have broken through the central barrier from the looks of it. Let's pray no one is seriously hurt.
“But rubberneckers, please stop adding chaos to the scene and just keep driving before you cause another accident.”
Frustrated commuters have taken to Twitter to inform the community to avoid the major highway this morning, with calls out for major delays expected.
JM tweeted: “Traffic has come to a standstill heading towards Jebel Ali. Please avoid Sheikh Zayed Road.”
Chris B wrote: “Traffic accident near to Al Safa bridge towards Abu Dhabi. Major delays.”
