Shops can remain open until 4am in Ramadan

Published

Shops and service centres in Sharjah can remain open until 4am during the Holy month of Ramadan, according to a statement by the Sharjah Municipality.

The municipality will grant special permissions to those outlets that wish to function until the morning hours for the entire fasting month including the Eid holidays, said Omar Al Sharji, Director, Operations and Inspections, Municipal Services, SM.

According to reports in local dailies, requests from restaurants, bakeries, cafeterias, salons and other public service centres will be considered.

Al Sharji said the decision was taken in order to allow residents to accomplish their needs and complete their regular activities because it would be difficult to fulfill the same during fasting hours.

Permits will be granted subject to monitoring by the municipality, he said and added that extended work hours should not disturb the population during late hours. Also the activities should be in line with the nature of the city providing a tranquil family atmosphere.

Outlets planning to stay late can approach the Department of Operations and Inspection of the Municipality at the Fifth Industrial Zone and submit applications, Al Sharji explained.
