Shops found selling banned abortion pills

UAE’s Ministry of Health has closed down two pharmacies in one of the Northern Emirates for selling illegal abortion and erectile dysfunction pills.

In a statement sent out to the media, the ministry said that it received complaints about these two pharmacies, and it worked with the police in that emirate and representatives from the ministry’s pharmaceutical department.

The ministry said that these pharmacies were involved in a number of violations such as absence of a pharmacist or assistant pharmacist who are licensed from the ministry. The medicines were sold by a clerk.

Also the pharmacy was selling Cytotec, which is a controlled drug and forbidden from being sold at the pharmacies and it is given strictly at hospitals.

The statement added that the pharmacy was also selling erectile dysfunction medicines which is not registered at the ministry and might also be fake or harmful.

One of the pharmacies was also in bad shape. There were many expired medical equipment and dust covered the shelves of the pharmacy.

The other pharmacy was involved in selling medicines which helps people get addicted to it, and also some of the controlled drugs.

Bothe pharmacies and their owners were referred to the public prosecution for further investigations.
