Six hurt in gas cylinder blast in Sharjah

Six Asian workers were injured, including one seriously, after a gas cylinder exploded at their home in Sharjah emirate, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

Police investigating the accident said it was caused by negligence after the workers in Al Madam area went to bed and forgot to shut the gas cylinder.

They said the blast was so powerful that it badly damaged the worker’s room,  the building’s front door and a car parked near the entrance.

Emarat Al Youm daily quoted worker, Omar, as saying they were asleep when the explosion occurred in the early hours of the morning. He said one worker woke up in the morning to prepare breakfast and turned the gas on, not realizing there was a gas leak.

The paper quoted doctors in Dhaid hospital as saying one of the workers was admitted to the intensive care unit after suffering from serious burns.
