Small fire on Dubai-Boston flight put out

A Dubai-to-Boston Emirates flight with 368 people on board has been grounded at Logan International Airport after an engine fire broke out on the aircraft.

Flight EK237 carrying 349 passengers and 19 crew members experienced the incident when the flight landed at Logan International, with officials confirming to Emirates 24|7 that the fire was quickly extinguished.

A spokesperson with the airline said: “Emirates can confirm that its flight EK 237, a Boeing 777-300 ER from Dubai International Airport to Boston Logan International Airport on 10th August 2014 experienced a small engine fire on landing.

“The fire was quickly extinguished and all 349 passengers and 19 crew safely disembarked the aircraft at the airport terminal.”

According to Massport, the fire was put out and the plane was towed to the gate. However, the incident has caused scheduling delays for Emirates in Boston.

The spokesperson continued: “A second Emirates Boeing 777-300 ER has been dispatched from Dubai International Airport to pick up passengers from Boston who were due to depart on EK 238 10th August.

“This aircraft is due to land at Boston Logan at 9.40am on 11th August and will depart at 11.15am. It is scheduled to land at Dubai International at 7.30am on 12th August, a delay of 12 hours from its scheduled arrival time.

“Emirates apologises for the inconvenience; its paramount consideration at all times is the safety of its passengers and crew.”
