Solar Impulse - bright page of innovation: Mohamed

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has said a bright page of innovation has been written with the success of Solar Impulse journey around the world.

Sheikh Mohamed wrote on his Twitter account: "Congratulations to the crew. We hope the success of @solarimpulse helps to deliver Abu Dhabi‘s message about the need to invest in clean energy and encourage innovation."

He also wrote: "Masdar will always motivate innovation; @solarimpulse arrival to #AbuDhabi is not the end. It is a new beginning (that will lead) towards more achievements."

Sheikh Mohamed also congratulated Switzerland on this success, "which proves that partnership and cooperation for the good of mankind is our ultimate goal."

UAE is international hub for all kinds of energy: Saif bin Zayed

Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, inspected Solar Impulse 2, which returned safely to Abu Dhabi on Tuesday morning, after it successfully completed its historic round across the world without using a drop of fuel.

Sheikh Saif confirmed the keenness of the wise leadership of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to support innovation and sustainability through developing renewable energy projects.

''The UAE is an international hub for all sorts of energies, projects and initiatives, which aim to ensure better future for the world. And hosting the Solar Impulse project by Masdar confirms the country's pivotal role in the renewable energy field," Sheikh Saif said.

Sheikh Saif congratulated the pilots and crew for achieving a new record in the history of aviation, stressing that with determination and will there will be no impossible and "Welcome to Abu Dhabi."

Sheikh Saif and those accompanying him were briefed by pilots on the Solar Impulse project which includes the vision of the project that aims to enhance spread of clean technologies and innovative uses of renewable energy, which are in line with the UAE's approach towards securing a sustainable future.


New proof of renewable energy efficiency: Hamdan bin Zayed

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, congratulated the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for the successful circumnavigation of the globe by Solar Impulse 2 and safe return to Abu Dhabi Tuesday.

In a statement on the safe return home of the Si2, Sheikh Hamdan emphasised on the UAE leadership's directives to enhance the nation’s leadership role in renewable energy so as to deliver sustainable development goals, deploy clean and renewable energy technology, and create an innovation-driven environment that generates job opportunities and stimulates economic growth.

''The landmark return of Solar Impulse 2 to Abu Dhabi serves an important message to future generations that it is high time to think differently and that the humanity is capable to induce change. We need to make innovation and sustainability part of daily life and the foundation on which the future will be built,'' he said.

The 16-leg journey around the world, Sheikh Hamdan added, provided a new testimony of how clean renewable energy technologies are efficient enough to build a more sustainable future.

''The historic journey is a gateway to the future that counts on widespread sustainable use of clean renewable technologies to improve quality of life across the globe.”

Sheikh Hamdan also acknowledged Masdar, official host partner of Si2, for its major contributions to deployment of the renewable energy sources and solutions across the region and globally.

As it circumnavigated the world, Solar Impulse 2 flew over countries where Masdar projects are already demonstrating the potential of renewable energy to extend energy access, reduce carbon emissions and diversify the energy mix.
