In a bid to ensure that workers who brave the heat and step out to keep the city clean, are unharmed by the scorching sun, Dubai Municipality has distributed ‘cooling caps’.

Powered by solar energy, these caps are fitted with a mini-fan that will help workers of the Dubai Municipality remain cool.

Talking to Emirates 24|7, Abdul Majeed Saifaie, Director of Waste Management Department, said the initiative is a first of its kind, and is line with Director-General  Eng. Hussain Nassir Lootah’s directive to ensure the welfare of every worker who helps make our city a comfortable place to live in.

“We have distributed 3,000 caps to our workers, mostly those who clean the city.”

He highlighted how the Dubai Municipality is constantly striving to provide a better working environment to its workers.

“Summer is extremely hot here, and we decided to do something for our workers who have to be out. We found the caps to be one of the most simple but impacting solution.

“This will help reduce their stress and fatigue at work.

“It is light-weight, made of cotton and is powered by solar energy.”

Saifaie informed that the workers are happy with the gesture. “When they see that the senior management is working towards their welfare, they are happy.”

That’s not all, the official highlighted how they ensure that their workers don’t work during the peak time during summer and abide by the Ministry of Labour’s mid-day break timings for summer.

The Director General had earlier launched the Takaful Box initiative that collects donations for the welfare of workers.

Calling them the unsung heroes of our city, Lootah encouraged every department to take steps to ensure their workers are provided with a comfortable life.
