Private sector employees in Dubai often feel left out when it comes to public holidays, as many believe they get fewer number of days off from work as compared to the public sector.

However, there are some companies in Dubai in the private sector, which beat the trend as they are giving as many as five days off from work to their employees.

“I’m one of the lucky ones to get five days off from work. Holidays start on Thursday and I’m back to work on Tuesday. My son is off school for the same number of days and we are very happy that we will be able to spend quality time together,” said an employee who works for a media company in Media City on the condition of anonymity.

There are many other happy employees in the city as their companies have been considerate enough to give them more holidays. “I work for a Dutch courier company and they are giving us Sunday off so we enjoy the same number of holidays as the public sector,” the employee told this website without wishing to be named.

A number of readers wrote to Emirates24|7 airing their views about holidays for private and public sector employees.

“You can’t say all companies are the same. There are many companies in the private sector which are very forward looking and will go an extra mile to keep their workforce happy,” said the HR manager of a multinational company in Dubai.
