Special family areas for desert camping

Residents and tourists can enjoy desert camping but with a new set of rules and regulations to be issued shortly by Dubai Municipality.

Yusuf Abdulla, Acting Director of Buildings Department at Dubai Municipality said, “Next year we are planning to solve all issues faced in previous years in terms of allocating areas for winter desert camping.

“Safety and security will be strictly ensured in coordination with concerned authorities of Dubai government with the support of updated rules and regulations,” Yusuf said.

According to the directives of Hussain Nassir Lootah, the department will allocate separate areas for families considering the increasing request for temporary camping permit from families as well as to ensure the safety of family members in sync with the habits and traditions of Arabs in desert life.

Jabir Ahmad Al Ali, Head of Building Inspections Section of Building Department said: “In the last winter season, the civic body had to crackdown 183 tents out of total 554 licensed temporary tents  due to several safety violations and noncompliance with other terms and conditions.”

“Currently we have almost completed the removal of all licensed tents due to the end of winter season.

“The action came only after notifying the owners of tents through local media and personal sms to their registered mobile numbers,” Jabir said.

“I especially appreciate the action team comprised of engineers, inspectors and workers who exerted the maximum efforts to ensure the compliance of these tents with all terms and conditions set by the civic body, in addition to the general safety and security rules,” he added.

He also thanked Dubai Police, Dewa, RTA and Civil Defense for their constant support and cooperation in ensuring the rules and regulations.
