Two separate accidents involving traffic offences that the police across all emirates have been at pains to spread awareness about have left one person dead and six injured.

In the first accident, involving speeding, a Russian national died on the Kalba-Al Hili Valley road.

The police said the man, in his thirties, was driving a BMW motorcycle. The bike skidded due to the rider's high speed on a sharp mountain turn and went over the edge.

The man was rushed to the Kalba Hospital where attempts to resuscitate him failed.

In the second accident, which involved running through a red signal, six people miraculously escaped with only minor injuries.

The accident happened on Sheikh Khalid Street in Khor Fakkan and preliminary inquiries show that a Toyota Camry, driven by 30-year-old PA, jumped a red signal and collided with another Toyota Camry driven by a 38-year-old.

Ambulances took the injured to a hospital in Khor Fakkan.

Sharjah Police has warned drivers that a fine of Dh800 and eight black points could be imposed on those who jump red signals. Their vehicles can also be impounded for 15 days.
