A fatal traffic accident in Ras Al Khaimah on Monday claimed one life and left  another person critically injured.

A 21-year-old Emirati lost control of the vehicle as he was heading towards the roundabout on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road at about 3am, reported Arabic dailies.

Colonel Abdullah Menkhis, Director, Traffic and Patrols, Ras AL Khaimah Police, said it was a case of over-speeding.

The car swerved and rammed into the pavement before hitting a lamp post and flipping over on to the opposite lane.

The driver and his companion were thrown out of the vehicle in the impact of the collision leading to the instant death of the Emirati, the official added.

His friend is injured.

Worker’s head crushed under truck

A Nepalese construction worker was killed when his skull was crushed under a heavy duty truck at the site near Fujeirah, a newspaper said on Tuesday.

The truck’s Indian driver has just finished his work at the quarry, 40 km southwest of Fujeirah, and was heading out of the site when he accidentally hit the 28-year-old Nepalese and a Sri Lankan work mate, who suffered from medium injuries.

Police, quoted by the Arabic language daily Alkhaleej, said the Nepalese died instantly during the accident on Monday morning. They said it was an accident without any criminal intentions.
