Student charged with assaulting, robbing elderly expat

A 23-year-old Sudanese student was charged of assaulting a Saudi national and stealing Dh2,000 from him, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The 52-year-old, AHA, visitor, testified that the incident took place on May 29 at around 10pm. He was walking back to his hotel through the narrow lanes of Murshid Souq when someone grabbed him from behind.

“While walking a person held me from behind and another person snatched
money from the upper pocket of my Kandoora. The one holding me pushed me
forward and I fell to the ground. The two ran in opposite directions.

"Although I had injured my knees, I ran after the one who had stolen my wallet, calling for help. Some pedestrians caught one of the attackers until  police arrived,” he testified.

The Court adjourned the case for verdict until July 25.
