Sudden swerving by cars on internal and external roads in the emirate of Abu Dhabi resulted in the death of 15 people and injuring of 19 others from January 1 until March 17 of this year, according to the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police.

It said 'sudden swerving' is the most serious cause of death in traffic accidents in the emirate.

The number of violations of sudden swerving on internal and external roads in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain stood at 1,653 since the beginning of the year.

Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Balushi, Director of the passage of the outer regions of the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police, urged drivers to adhere to the law of traffic, use the turn signal in case they wish to change their lane; commit sufficient distance and avoid traffic accidents that occur because of sudden deviation.

He stressed the seriousness of the violation of not giving a signal to turn, calling on drivers to make sure the lane was empty before moving to another. He urged motorists to look over their shoulder to avoid cars in the 'blind spot' of the mirrors, and to maintain the same speed during change, careful to use the turn signal to warn other road users.

He said that Abu Dhabi Police has intensified surveillance on the roads, with traffic patrols and radars.
