The Directorate of Traffic at Abu Dhabi Police have seized a vehicle that had committed more than 580 traffic violations and had traffic fines amounting to Dh459,000.

The owner of the vehicle is also accused of driving the vehicle under a forged number plate to avoid detection after he had racked up so many fines.

Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Balushi, Director, Directorate of Traffic at Abu Dhabi Police, says the department launched an investigation after surveillance cameras repeatedly showed this particular vehicle committing traffic offences in the Western Region.

“However, the number plate did not match the vehicle,” he said.

Balushi says a task-force was launched to track down the owner of the vehicle and he lived in the Western Region.

Balushi has warned motorists against distorting, blurring or tampering with the number plates.

“This is punishable by imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or a fine not exceeding 20,000 dirhams,” he said.

The Directorate of Traffic in collaboration with the Air Wing Department of the Abu Dhabi Police have begun to run air patrols to track errant motorists.
