Target 2020: Your mobile phone is all that you will need to access services

UAE will become the centre of technological connectivity and seamless integration of eGovernance and mServices ahead of the Expo 2020, the country`s top telecom regulatory authority has said.

According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority in the UAE, about Dh250million will be allocated for the development and integration of mobile services.

Another Dh200 million has already been allocated as part of the Information and Communication Technology Fund to develop a similar service at the Federal level.

Speaking during a recent media briefing, Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Deputy Director General for Information and eGovernment Sector and Head of mGovernment Committee said multiple initiatives are being launched simultaneously to enable UAE to achieves the target of becoming one of the first countries in the world to integrate all major public services on the mobile platform.

According to him, the focus will not just be the integration of government services, “We are going to promote private initiatives as well,” said Al Mansoori. “Our core focus will be on customer satisfaction,” he added.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai earlier this year launched the Smart Government initiative whereby government services will be delivered via mobile phones and other advanced technology tools - as part of his vision to provide services to people wherever they are and at any time. UAE currently enjoys one of the best mobile penetration rates in the world. It is not just the number of people owning mobile phones and multiple handsets but the affordability. Expo 2020 that will be held in Dubai meanwhile provides the country with an ideal opportunity to showcase to the world its technological advances and what a nation marching forward with guided principles, dedicated leadership and a motivated public can achieve.
